Our Story

A new-generation textile house, rooted in generations of Indian craftsmanship.

Weavers & Artisans is a founder-led textile house bringing together handwoven and artisan-made Indian textiles from Banarasi sarees, suits and dupattas to shawls, fabrics and other craft-led pieces.

For us, choosing handwoven should be more than choosing something beautiful. It should be an informed decision one that comes with an understanding of the material, the craft, the technique and the people whose knowledge makes the textile possible.

It begins with Ishanika.

At 35, as a mother and first-generation entrepreneur, Ishanika decided to build something of her own.

She did not inherit an established textile house or step into a family business waiting to be continued. She chose to create one guided by curiosity, entrepreneurship and a growing respect for India’s extraordinary traditions of weaving and making.

Weavers & Artisans became that beginning.

The house may be new. The knowledge behind its textiles is not.

Generations of knowledge, carried forward

Long before Weavers & Artisans existed, generations of weavers and artisans were developing and passing forward the skills behind the textiles we value today.

The understanding of the loom. The behaviour of different fibres. The construction of a motif. The relationship between colour and zari. The techniques that distinguish one textile tradition from another.

That knowledge belongs first to the people who practise the craft.

Our role is to respect it, represent it responsibly and bring our customers closer to it.

It is also why the people behind these textiles are part of our name.

Know what you choose.

A beautiful textile may catch your attention. Understanding it changes the way you value it.

We believe customers should be able to ask: What is this made from? Where does its craft come from? How was it made? What technique does it represent? What distinguishes one textile from another?

Words such as handloom, handwoven, Banarasi, silk and artisan-made should communicate information not simply create an impression.

As Weavers & Artisans grows, our commitment is to make the story behind the textile increasingly visible: its material, technique, provenance and, wherever possible, the people behind its making.

Because transparency does not take away from the beauty of craft.

It gives that beauty meaning.

A new legacy in the making

For Ishanika, building Weavers & Artisans is also personal.

Her daughter will grow up with the story of a mother who began at 35 and chose to create something of her own.

That is a different kind of inheritance not simply a business or a name to pass down, but an example of what it means to begin, to learn and to build something worth carrying forward.

And the story is larger than one family.

It belongs equally to the makers whose knowledge gives these textiles their value and to the people who choose to understand, wear and preserve them.

A textile leaves the loom carrying the knowledge of its maker. From there, it becomes part of someone else’s life a wedding, a celebration, a gift, an ordinary day, and perhaps one day, something passed forward again.

We hope the pieces you discover at Weavers & Artisans become part of those stories.

The house is new. The knowledge isn’t.
